Sarah Bishop Chapters 1-6 Question 1

Why was Sarah's dad mad that she wanted to go back to school?

  1. 1. Sarah's dad was mad because Sarah's teacher was a patriot. So with him being a loyalist he was angered to have her going to a patriots school. Back then woman had no say so, if you were young like Sarah you had to follow your elders beliefs, even if you disagreed. A good example of this is how kids seem to agree with what their parents say, like now how the election is going on. Sarah's dad is also fearful of Sarah's safety. He may be worried that the patriots at the school may harm her. So he could be mad at the teacher instead of Sarah. It really all depends on your view of the story.

    1. Kailee, I completely agree with you. Sarah's dad was a loyalist and her teacher was a patriot, so this might cause disagreement between them. I like what you said about women not having any say back then. I also like how said if they were young like Sarah, you had to follow your elders beliefs. I agree to everything you said. Your paragraph is really good!

    2. Kailee I agree with everything. I agree that teacher is a patriot and that is way her dad doesn't want her to be in his class. Her dad is a loyalist. I never thought that her dad might think the patriot school will harm her.

  2. 1. Sarah's dad was mad because Sarah wanted to go back to school. But that is not all of why he was mad. One reason on why he was mad would be because Sarah's teacher (Master Wentworth), was a patriot and Sarah's dad was a loyalist. This might cause comotion between them. Also, Sarah's dad thinks that Master Wentworth has become "a mouthpeice for the rebellion". This might have everything to do with polotics, and it might not. But clearly, Sarah's dad was mad because Master Wentworth was a patriot.

    1. Sarah's dad didnt want anyone influencing or getting in the way of S arah becoming a loyalist. Sarahs dad was mad for a few reasons. He was mad because Sarah's teacher was a patriot, and he was a loyalist. They had different opinions on the king, and him taxing them. This might cause arguement between them. Also, Sarah's dad might think Master Wentworth was influincing her to become a patriot. He wanted her to be loyal to the king, and didn't want anything or anyone to get in the way of that.

  3. 1.) Sarah's dad didn't want Sarah to go to school because her teacher would be Master Wentworth and he is a patriot. With Sarah's dad being a loyalist, and Master Wentworth being a patriot you can see the conflict. Also, Master Wentworth might influence Sarah into becoming a patriot in school, and her dad obviously does not want that to happen. And I'm sure that Sarah's dad does not want Sarah ending up like her brother and his friend. That's why Sarah's dad didn't want Sarah to go to school.

    1. Chloe, I agree with you completely. Obviously, Sarah's dad does not want Sarah to be a patriot. He thinks that school may influence Sarah. Since Master Wentworth is a patriot and Sarah's dad is a loyalist there is lots of conflict like you (Chloe) said. Sarah's dad also need Sarah's help. He does not want her to follow in the footsteps of Chad. Your paragraph makes so much sence. I agree with everything you said!

    1. Carmen I agree with you. Master Wentworth is a patriot, and sarahs dad is not happy if he is the school teacher and Sarah would join his class. Because Sarah's dad is scared that Master Wentworth will influence Sarah to be a patriot, when Sarah's dad is a loyalists. So Carmen you are right! :)

    1. Carmen, I love your answer to this question. My only problem is I thought that her teacher said that he would save her a seat in his class. That means he gave her a spot in the class. Good job.

  6. 1. Sarah's dad was mad that Sarah wanted to return to school because of Master Wentworth. Master Wentworth was the teacher and also a patriot. Sarah's dad was a loyalist. Sarah's fathers own words to Master Wentworth were, "Because, sir, you have become a mouthpiece for the rebellion." Sarah's father was afraid that she would be learning things that went against how he believed and how he felt about the King.

    1. Hayden, you just made me wonder, how can someone talk so civilized and yet be so utterly rude? Its just kind of funny, they could make anything thats completely rude and uncalled for and make it sound like it was nothing. Your also very right Sarah's dad probably knew something about Master Wentworth that Sarah did not. So of course he would be angered to have him ask his daughter to come back to school even though he knew very well that her father was a loyalist.

  7. I think the reason why Sarah's dad doesn't want her going back to school is because of his beliefs. He is a major loyalist. He doesn't want Sarah to go to a school that teaches Sarah to become a patriot. Though Sarah doesn't even care about patriots and loyalist. Sarah just wants to be Sarah, but her dad wants her to be loyal to the king. I think that she should stand up for herself and tell her dad that she doesn't care about being a loyalist or patriot. That is why the father won't let her return to school.

    1. I completely agree with you Hannah, Sarah should take a chance and stand up. Back then though, women were not given enough rights to do so. I am sure if she were to do that she would have been beaten and made to listen to a lecture from her fathers bible. I still wonder why people back then thought of women as nothing more than another person. Women can do just as much as a man can.

    2. I am replying to your reply. Thank you so much for saying that women are important. I swear everyone in this class (mainly the boys) think otherwise. I wish she could have just turned to her father and said that she wanted to return to school.
