Why did Sarah prefer to stay by herself in the cave?

  1. Sarah preferred to stay by herself in a/the cave because of a few reasons. First, she did not want to hide anymore. She wanted to walk out of the cave and not have to worry about the British troops and stuff like that. Second, she did not want to go any farther. She was tired and wanted to rest. Last, she wanted peace and quiet. She did not want to be disturbed by any-body.

    1. Yes Allison, I completely agree with you. Sarah is better off by herself. If she were to actually confront her loss I'm not sure she would be able to handle it. There is something that she isn't admitting to herself, if she eventually did face that I think she would break down. If Sarah were to break down like I think she would I don't believe that she would ever come out it

    2. Allison, I think you are correct about Sarah not wanting to run anymore and she was tired. I can't imagine being on my own at that age. The book doesn't really seem to indicate that Sarah is scared, but she is very independent and courageous.

  2. Sarah preferred to stay in the cave by herself for a couple reasons. One, Sarah doesn't want someone to stay with her because if they got mad at her they could take her food. They also could take very thing that Sarah has. Two, she doesn't wamt someone to bother her. A preson will just be a distraction to her. Three, if Sarah wants them to do something and they do it wrong she will get mad. She knowns what she wants and how she want it done.

    1. Carmen, I agree to everything you said. First of all I agree with you on how Sarah doesn't want someone to stay with her because they could get mad at her. If they got mad at her they could take something valuable to her or something key to her survival. I also agree that she doesn't want anyone to bother her. A person will just be a distraction. Your paragraph is good!

  3. Sarah preferred to stay in the cave by herself for multiple reasons. First of all, she didn't want anyone with her because she was scared. She was afraid that if she lived with someone they might rat her out to the British troops. Second, She didn't want anyone to bother her. A person might bother her, and be a distraction. Lastly, she was tired. She didn't want to go any further, and wanted to rest. Basically, Sarah wanted to stay in the cave because she was scared, tired, and didn't want anyone to bother her.

  4. Sarah preferred to stay in the cave by herself, for many reasons. She did not want to have to run from the government any more, she did not want help from people who haven't helped her ever and are now feeling oh so generous, she doesn't want to be turned in, plus she is probably coping better with her losses alone. No one can run forever so instead of attempting to run in circles to get away from the government she decided to settle down in a place almost no one would find. I know I get kind of angry when I have gotten so far in doing something and when I'm almost done or at least at a place where I can stop people decide to suddenly ask if I want help. She also does not want to be tricked into trusting someone and then turn around to find she has been betrayed. I think its better for Sarah to stay not completely alone, but with her animals, so no one can remind her of the loss she went through. Sarah is most likely better off with out anyone permanently living with her, but it is good that she sees normal people from time to time.

    1. Kailee, I agree with you. Sarah is better off alone. She can deal with her problems better in a cave. Your right, she can't run forever. I don't think she should trust anyone. She has trusted too many people, and it did not work out. I also think that it would be good for Sarah to see normal people once in a while. This paragraph was packed with details. You did really good!

  5. 3. I think the reason why she wanted to be in the cave alone is she couldn't trust anyone. If you were all by yourself you wouldn't want a complete stranger in your shelter. Plus Sarah was being hunted by British soldiers. If someone told them where she was hiding she would be dead. As a young girl alone in the wild she really has to be independent and trust no one. If she isn't on her toes 24/7 she will get into big trouble. Clearly this is why she stays in the cave alone.

    1. I agree with everything you said Hannah. Sarah is being hunted by the British soldiers and she does not want to be turned in, so the best thing she needs to do is live alone so no one can turn her in. Also, she is just a young girl with no family, having a stranger live with you is just not a good idea.

  6. 3. Sarah preferred to stay in the cave by herself because she was tired of running from the British soldiers and didn't feel like she could trust anyone. Once she thought about living in the wilderness, she decided that she didn't want to be on the run anymore. After living in the cave, by herself, Sarah was beginning to enjoy being alone. The longer she was at the cave, the more useful she felt. She began looking forward to each and every day.

  7. 3.) Sarah would rather stay alone in the cave because she cant trust anyone now. She cant trust any stranger because they might tell the soldiers where she is and she would most likely be killed for something she didnt even do. Also, she should stay in the cave alone because that would be another mouth to feed, and in the summer that would not be a big deal but in the winter it would be. Thats why Sarah preferred to stay in the cave alone.
